The old abbey in Drongen is a historic monastery building. As a conference centre, the Old Abbey in Drongen is open to associations, academia, social institutions, schools and companies that want to organise lectures, workshops and multi-day seminars within a framework that invites reflection and deepening.
A piece of history
Old Abbey Drongen, protected monument since 1998, is originally an imposing Norbertine abbey. It was the Norbertines who built the basic form of today's abbey with a cloister, chapter house, refectory, and calefactorium (fireplace). Later the domain came into the hands of the Jesuits. Initially, it was a training house for young vocations and then it became a centre for reflection. At the turn of the last century, the historic building was also given the function of a conference centre.
Groups
Groups of 10 people or more can request a guided tour, whether or not combined with a substantive input by one of the employees (a testimonial, moment of reflection or a lecture). Meals and coffee moments can be provided for each activity; Oude Abdij Drongen offers extensive catering possibilities.
Participants of groups that make use of the conference centre and do not provide an overnight stay in their programme can stay individually in the guesthouse. Those who take part in a multi-day activity with an overnight stay and would like to arrive in the evening in advance or would like to stay an evening longer after the programme, can also request an overnight stay.
Halls
The domain is about ten hectares in size and is situated in a meander of the picturesque Leie, five kilometres from Ghent. The infrastructure of the house is designed to accommodate both smaller and larger groups. The house has about 10 rooms, 4 dining rooms, 75 double rooms with private bathroom, some chapels and meditation rooms.
Accessibility
There is a limited number of parking spaces on the domain. At the end of the street is the station of Drongen, where you can park for free. The abbey is also easily accessible by bus, which stops at the entrance of the domain.
